Torino

One Week in Torino

For this program we will use a family apartment that is placed at our disposal for the occasion. It is in a residential area of town, with a small private garden. On its back the Alps' view, it is well served by facilities and well connected with downtown.

The apartment has one well equipped bathroom.

Meetings with friends for pleasant moments together are scheduled.

Torino is famous for the elegant atmospheres of its nineteenth-century cafés, where, among crystals and wood furnishings there is the habit to have a coffee, a tea, or a hot chocolate (not recommendable in July) with sweets and also delicious aperitifs.

Modern Art is very much appreciated in Torino and numerous are the events and show-rooms dedicated to it. The decision to visit them can be taken directly during the stay, therefore they are not indicated in the program.

Note: During the summer period it is possible to spend a pleasant day in the fresh of the mountains near Torino, in one of the nice town of the Susa Valley, easily reachable. Or, in the hottest hours, refresh with a nice swim in one of the city's sport clubs with swimming pool.

Day 1: Arrival, settle down at home and welcome dinner

Day 2: Walk in the park near home Torino's city center: Piazza Castello, Royal Palace, Cathedral, Palazzo Madama.

Day 3: The Valentino Park, the Medieval Village, lunch under the trees along the Po river Walk along the nineteenth-century Via Po, the street of porticoes that leads to the feet of the hill and to the Gran Madre Church

Day 4: A half a day excursion out of town. Visit of the Saint Michael Abbey (Sacra di San Michele). An old Benedictine abbey of the tenth century, situated on the Mt Pirchiriano in the Susa Valley. Place of old pilgrimages along the Via Francigena. Umberto Eco was inspired by this place for his book “The Name of the Rose”.

Day 5: Visit of the Egyptian Museum: second only to the Cairo one;or Contemporary Art exhibition. Shopping and not only: fun stroll among the elegant shop windows and browse in the shops downtown

Day 6: The Mole Antonelliana and Cinema Museum

Day 7: Out of town excursion. Superga Basilica or the Complex of Venaria (Reggia di Venaria) .

Dear Luisa, I would once again like to tell you that I'm extremely happy to have chosen my homestay in Reggio Emilia with you as a teacher. I have never had any doubts that the best way to learn Italian is to live in Italy, among Italians.

I had a wonderful time with Luisa. I am a complete beginner and perhaps should have had more under my belt before attempting a total immersion course but Luisa is a patient teacher.

I attended Luisa’s homestay language course during Christmas in 2005. The lessons were very useful. Moreover I really enjoyed staying with her and sharing the holiday season with her nice family members in a very Italian way.

Ciao cara Luisa,
Sono a Parigi per il lavoro!

I had studied Italian in group settings at a number of schools in Italy before finding Luisa. I was ready for something one-on-one and more intensive and I didn't want to be in a touristy place where I'd hear English around me too much.
